In a city packed with myriad Pan Asian options, seekers of authentic Japanese cuisine might have finally found some respite in the form of this new specialty restaurant. Called Miyuki (meaning good fortune or happiness), this small eatery involves a long drive to Chinchwad, so we try to decipher if it’s worth it.

Décor
Let us first warn you that if you’re planning to visit this place with a big group of friends, make sure you sieve a few names out, as this one’s a tiny seven-seater. We wonder if we can even classify it as a restaurant since it is more like a space in the corner of the hotel’s lobby, but the décor is typically Oriental with dark wooden interiors. The chefs’ counter at the centre is the room’s focus and guests can sit facing the chef, which makes for a cosy dining experience, albeit one that doesn’t afford much privacy.

Food + Drinks
For those who love Japanese fare, this place is a godsend with signatures prepared by chef Shintaro Fujisaki, who sticks to the script and is exceptional. The set menu is unlikely to change for the next couple of months, so take note of the one dish that literally melted in our mouth – the Buta Kakuni – a Japanese stew pork braised in a liquid of soy sauce, sugar and other ingredients until tender.

The Chicken Negima Yakitori and the Hamberg (a patty with beef and pork) infused with red wine sauce and served along with fried rice were quite delicious too. In vegetarian, there’s the Yasai Mushi salad with boiled cauliflower, lettuce, carrots and other veggies in kyuri or cucumber sauce that is as divine as the fresh vegetables it showcases with a rare subtlety. The veg Yakitori options come with okra and brinjal, but were quite underwhelming, so steer clear.

TimesCity Verdict: A dynamite – small in size, big in potential. Do drop by for traditional Japanese cuisine, along with the sake (rice wine).
